Golf Tournaments
The first annual Koocher Brothers' Golf Tournament
took place in April of 2000. A group of volunteers
from Winegard Motors in Caledonia, along with the help
of other community members organized the event and the
end result was a huge success. The tournament was
played at Chippewa Golf Course in Mount Hope. It was a
sell out, raising more than $14,000 for the trust
fund. Prizes were donated by local and out of town
businesses and individuals. A second golf tournament
was held in September of 2000 hosted by business
colleagues of Fred Koocher. This tournament was held
at Flambourough Hills Golf Course. It was also a great
success. Prizes and sponsorships were generously
donated and a live auction was also held. This
tournament also raised a large amount of money and the
proceeds went to the trust fund. Due to the
overwhelming response of both tournaments it was
agreed that one tournament would be held annually.
Each year now, the tournament is organized by the
volunteers from Winegard Motors and is held at the end
of April at Chippewa Golf Club. The tournament
accommodates 180 golfers. It is a four-person team
scramble format and everyone receives a prize. There
are a few contests that can be entered while on the
course for an extra fee. After golfing there is a
lovely roast beef dinner waiting at the Caledonia
Legion. A live auction is held after the dinner for
anyone who wants to attend. The proceeds raised go
directly to the foundation. The fee is $75.00 per
golfer. Carts are not included but can be reserved.
(Charitable receipts issued for $45.00)
Minor Hockey Tournaments
Each year at Christmas time and the beginning of
April, the Minor Hockey association of Caledonia hosts
two tournaments in memory of the boys. The Christmas
tournament held between Christmas and New Year is the
Aaron Koocher Memorial Tournament open to Novice
through Bantam players. The Devin Koocher Memorial
Tournament is held in April and hosts only Tyke
players. Both tournaments draw from all over and are a
great success. Today, some of the proceeds raised are
donated to the foundation with the rest supporting
minor hockey. The Koochers' in the past have donated
prizes to the players and are present to hand out
trophies to the winning teams.
